“Thicket Priory – where’s that? Those were the words spoken to our son when we were on holiday last year and he announced that not only had she said “yes” but also that the date and venue for the big day were fixed. Sitting thousands of miles away, little could we imagine the treat that was laying in store for us.
Looking at the photographs on the website whetted our appetite but it was impossible to visualise the real thing so on our return to the UK we contacted Anna and arranged to meet her one cold September afternoon. She became the face of Thicket Priory for us. Her bright and bubbly personality with a casual, relaxed attitude but an underlying exacting eye for detail is exceptional. Having shown us the general layout, we were encouraged to wander around on our own, look into every room, and simply get lost for a couple of hours.
That was when the magic set in. Each room is unique with simple but beautiful harmonious decor and furnishings. There are also little anecdotes or a synopsis of their history over the centuries. We knew that our son’s wedding was going to be a very special weekend.
That weekend has just passed. Thicket Priory become “home” to our two families and their guests. From the informal meal in the Old Kitchen on Friday lunchtime through to breakfast on Sunday morning, nothing was too much trouble for Anna and her Team. We were able to chill outside in the sun on Friday afternoon, wander round the grounds and lake, and simply absorb the wonderful ambience of this lovely old building.
Saturday morning was equally relaxed despite the comings and goings of hairdressers, florists, caterers, photographers and registrars alongside more guests. Even with so much activity, there remained an air of tranquillity befitting our special occasion. The wedding itself was delightful. Little touches such as Anna letting our Grandson strike the gong to commence proceedings made it extra special.
We thoroughly enjoyed the entire time that we spent in this stunning and lovingly restored old house. It’s a shame it all went so quickly.”

“We got married at Thicket Priory in March this year, literally just before lock down, and I cannot speak highly enough of the venue or staff. Just writing this review brings back so many wonderful memories and a little happy tear to my eye!
It has taken me a little while to write this review because it really does all feel like a dream! We could never have imagined a more perfect wedding among our family and friends – and since lock down hit, we almost think did that even happen – was that seriously our wedding? Luckily, we have the pictures and our treasured memories, and we really hope to go back one day to stay at Thicket Priory – or maybe just a little visit!
I found Thicket Priory online just after we got engaged in May 2019, it was not even open yet, and hadn’t even had its first wedding, but I couldn’t believe how lucky we were to have found a venue so perfectly suited to our style, taste and values. The interior is incredible, every little detail has been so well thought out and the restoration has been exquisitely done. We were in antique heaven, and on our wedding day our names were printed onto the old bells in the Kitchen (make sure to look out for the bells when you view!) and we just fell in love with the style of this magnificent building.
It was the only wedding venue we viewed, because there really is nothing better or more unique – especially if you are looking for an exclusive use venue with enough accommodation on-site for 70 guests and a stunning quaint little chapel! As soon as we met Anna and stepped inside into the hallway of TP, we knew that we had found somewhere truly magical and it really did feel like home!
Anna really sums up the whole essence of Thicket Priory, she made the whole experience so special and easy. She always had time for us, and we loved roaming around TP viewing all the bedrooms, the stunning chapel and quirky features as a couple – we actually never wanted to leave each weekend we visited! But seriously nothing was ever too much for Anna and the team.
Anna is an absolute expert in her field and always greeted us with a huge smile and loads of advice and tips. We really do feel so blessed to have got married at Thicket Priory and it was amazing to have the whole place to ourselves from Friday to Sunday. From the catering by Baba Ganoush (which was so well organised by the fabulous team and delicious) to organising suppliers on the day, sorting the little details like a FaceTime to guests who were unable to make it – nothing was EVER too much. I could go on and on about all the special things the TP team did for us, but this review would get far too long.
If I can recommend you do one thing, please go and VIEW Thicket Priory, meet Anna & the team and I promise you will not regret it! There are so many wedding venues out there which are special, but none live up to the qualities which TP holds between its many walls. It just has the most incredible wow factor yet also a homely vibe which makes you and your guests feel so relaxed and comfortable the whole weekend. It also has all the essentials you need for an amazing party – even in a 5* hotel you could not get more luxurious rooms and wait until you see the pantry kitchens throughout the building!
Thicket Priory is utterly magical, and you really do need to see it to believe it. One of the best things we did was choose an exclusive use wedding venue with accommodation and a chapel on-site! We got to spend so much time with our guests and I could not think of one thing I would change – I just wish it could have gone on longer….
