The Finer Details

Once you have viewed, we can hold a provisional date for you for 14 days. Booking is confirmed once you have paid the booking fee of 10% of the venue hire fee.

Our 35 beautifully appointed guest bedrooms are all located within the main house. They are offered exclusively to you and your party. The Vulliamy Suite has two double bedrooms, and a lounge with a single bed, all sharing one bathroom, perfect for a family. The two Sisters Bedrooms have interconnecting doors. Cots and Z-beds are available at an extra charge and can be provided in most rooms.

The Ballroom
The Ballroom is a blank canvas on which you can create the country house wedding or event of your dreams. It can be configured in various ways and is equally comfortable for an intimate wedding breakfast of 70 guests as it is for 160. Additional evening guests of up to 250 can be accommodated. We have round tables as well as long tables to suit your preferred layout, the cost of which is included in the venue hire. There is a wireless microphone connected to fully integrated speakers for use by guests.

Ceremony Locations
The Morning Room can be configured in different ways from an intimate ceremony of 70 to a larger gathering of 160.
We also have two smaller ceremony locations for more intimate occasions, the bottom of the Grand Staircase which seats 30 and the Jefferson Room which seats 12, this would be for the legal ceremony when using a celebrate for your ‘main ceremony’.

For larger ceremonies the Ballroom can accommodate up to 160, as well as the outdoor option of the Bandstand for up to 160 also.

The Chapel
A unique feature of Thicket Priory is the chapel situated within the main house where blessings and ceremonies can take place. We welcome all religions and the chapel can seat up to 110 guests with additional space for standing or Children.

Heritage Car
We have our own heritage Land Rover Defender, the ideal car for modern country house weddings and memorable wedding photographs. Whether for photographers or hired for travel it is a great addition to your wedding plans here at Thicket Priory.

The Bandstand is available for weddings in the garden (weather permitting, after all this is the UK!). Additional charges may apply for seating.

Drinks Collections
We offer a range of drinks ‘collections’ which encompass a reception drink, wine for the tables and a toast. You are required to provide this as a minimum for your guests, from £29.00 per person.
A corkage service is also on offer in place of the drinks collection only. Any drinks which are not part of the drinks reception, tables wines or toast drink would be purchased from our Gryffin Bar.

The Bar
Our wonderful bar has lounge seating, an open fire and stocks a large array of wines, beers and spirits for your guests to enjoy.

Thicket Priory Spring Water
Thicket Priory is blessed with its very own spring. Its crystal-clear water has been slowly filtered for over 1000 years through ancient York stone. Available for the table. See here…

Thicket Priory prides itself on being one of the few venues of its kind with excellent accessibility. All the Garden bedrooms are fully accessible as are the reception rooms, rest rooms and parking.

Civil Ceremonies or Partnerships

At Thicket Priory your privacy is completely assured. There is a long private drive and we are surrounded by a wetland nature reserve on three sides. Please explore the external views of our Virtual Tour.

For most events the ballroom is more than sufficient. However, should you require it, we have lawn space to accommodate a large marquee (we can help with recommendations for this). It is adjacent to the main building, with access to power and water. Additional charges may apply

Local Area
Few cities in the world can rival York for history and character. A picturesque riverside city encircled by a ribbon of ancient walls, York has a fascinating provenance that stretches back 2,000 years. Being a 20-minute drive from the second most visited city in the UK after London will surely be an additional attraction for your guests, who may even decide to extend their stay.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the Priory.

There are 30 parking spaces to the front of the Thicket Priory and over 100 spaces in the grassed overflow car park. Coaches can access the drive and can turn in front of the house.

We allow candles in the main ballroom and in the bar. However, these must be contained within a holder, lantern or hurricane glass. We do not allow candles elsewhere in the building, unless they are LED.

Fireworks / Chinese Lanterns
As we are surrounded by a beautiful nature reserve, sadly we cannot allow fireworks or Chinese Lanterns.
