Imagine your dream wedding at the Priory with all your closest family, friends and loved ones.

No need to sort out accommodation – it’s all here under one roof.  Exclusive venue hire includes all 35 bedrooms.

Once you have viewed, we will hold a provisional date for you for 14 days. Booking is confirmed once you have paid the deposit of 10% of the venue hire fee.

Our 35 beautifully appointed guest bedrooms are all located within the main house. They are offered exclusively to you and your party. The Vavasour Room has a double bed and a sofa bed in a separate room. The two Sisters Bedrooms have interconnecting doors. Cots and Z-beds are available at an extra charge and can be provided in most rooms.

The Ballroom
The Ballroom is a blank canvas on which you can create the country house wedding or event of your dreams. It can be configured in various ways and is equally comfortable for an intimate wedding breakfast of 70 guests as it is for 200. Additional evening guests of up to 350 can be accommodated.  We have round tables as well as long tables to suit your preferred layout, the cost of which is included in the venue hire. There is a wireless microphone connected to fully integrated speakers for use by guests.

Ceremony Rooms

The main ceremony room can be configured in different ways from an intimate ceremony of 40 to a larger gathering of 140.

We also have two smaller ceremony rooms for more intimate occasions, one which seats 70 and one 36. For very large ceremonies the ballroom can accommodate from 140 to 400 plus.

The Chapel
A unique feature of the Priory is the chapel situated within the main house where blessings and ceremonies can take place. We welcome all religions and the chapel can seat up to 120 guests with additional space for children or standing.

Vintage Car
The Priory’s own Rolls Royce Silver Cloud affectionately known as “Mervynia” is the perfect prop for glamorous, memorable wedding photographs. The sumptuous interior and wonderful flowing lines will add to an already magical and romantic wedding day experience. See the car here…

A Bandstand is available for weddings in the garden (weather permitting, after all this is the UK!). Additional charges may apply for seating.

Please see the floor plans showing the reception rooms and all the bedrooms here…

The Priory is fully fitted with a state-of-the-art sound system so you can enjoy your own music in the Ceremony Room and the Ballroom.

Food Glorious Food
We love our food here at the Priory, and we are lucky enough to have our catering team led by the highly experienced chef Matthew Hyde who has organised and managed banqueting at many of the UK’s most prestigious events. Whether you choose from the extensive range of individual dishes or ask his team to create your own bespoke menu, the results will be equally spectacular.

Drinks Collections
We offer a range of drinks ‘collections’ which encompass a reception drink, wine for the tables and a toast. You are required to provide this as a minimum for your guests. We do not generally offer a corkage service, but if there is specific reason for this, please do let us know.

The Bar
Our wonderful bar has an open fire and stocks most regular drinks.

Thicket Priory Spring Water
The Priory is blessed with its very own spring. Its crystal-clear water is slowly filtered for over 1000 years through ancient York stone. Available for the table.  See here…

The Priory prides itself on being one of the few venues of its kind with excellent accessibility. All the Garden bedrooms are fully accessible as are the reception rooms, rest rooms and parking.

Civil Ceremonies or Partnerships
When you have decided on Thicket Priory as the venue for your dream wedding, the first thing you need to do is organise your ceremony. You will have to book a registrar for your civil ceremony direct with Selby Registration Office. Please take a look at their website You can call them on 01609780780 or email them at [email protected]

Independent Celebrant’s
See our friends of Thicket for our list of favourites.

At the Priory your privacy is completely assured. There is a long private drive and we are surrounded by a wetland nature reserve on three sides. Please see the 360-degree picture…

For most events the ballroom is more than sufficient. However, should you require it, we have lawn space to accommodate a large marquee (we can help with recommendations for this). It is adjacent to the main building, with access to power and water. Additional charges may apply

Local Area
Few cities in the world can rival York for history and character. A picturesque riverside city encircled by a ribbon of ancient walls, York has a fascinating provenance that stretches back 2,000 years. Being a 20-minute drive from the second most visited city in the UK after London will surely be an additional attraction for your guests, who may even decide to extend their stay.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.

There are 30 parking spaces to the front of the Priory and over 100 spaces in the grassed overflow car park. Coaches can access the drive and can turn in front of the house.

We allow candles in the main ballroom and in the bar. However, these must be contained within a holder, lantern or hurricane glass. We do not allow candles elsewhere in the building.

Fireworks / Chinese Lanterns
We regret we cannot allow fireworks or Chinese lanterns due to the proximity of the nature reserve.
