Winter Weddings at Thicket Priory

North Yorkshire Countryside, Exclusive Hire Wedding Venue

The nights might be darker, but the sparkles are brighter, and the atmosphere is merrier which makes Thicket Priory the perfect setting for a romantic winter wedding…

“Amazing staff and a beautiful building, I don’t know of a more picturesque place for your wedding and there’s so many areas for that perfect photo opportunity!”

5 Tips for a Winter Wedding:

1. The winter months are the coldest time of year with a higher chance of rain, sleet and even sometimes snow! Be mindful of your guests traveling to your venue and the delays that the weather could bring. At Thicket Priory, you and your guests can stay the night before and the night of your wedding which means that there will be no worry of guests arriving late on your wedding day. Having a two-day wedding also means you can extend your celebrations as one-day just goes so quickly!

2. Consider having your ceremony a little earlier in the day (we would recommend 1pm) so that you can make the most of the afternoon light for your photographs.

3. Winter is the perfect season to add a bit of sparkle to your décor; candles and fairy lights are ideal to create a cosy warmth around the venue. We have a variety of LED candles that you can use, all you need to do is bring the batteries! Having glittery hair accessories for the bride and bridesmaids is also a nice way to add a bit of winter magic to your outfits.

4. Use layers to keep the bride and bridesmaids warm; think long sleeves, faux fur capes or embroidered leather jackets. Layers are ideal as they can be removed when you’re inside and dancing, so you don’t get too warm! For the Groom and Groomsmen, thick fabrics such as velvet, tweed and tartan are perfect as they will keep them warm whilst looking incredibly chic!

5. Dark hues such as berry red, burgundy and emerald green work so well this time of year with being the ‘traditional’ winter colours however do not let this put you off from opting for an alternative colour scheme. Our Ballroom with its neutral setting allows for you to choose any colour theme and aesthetic for your décor; whether that be a winter wonderland, 1920s Gatsby or something completely different!

“Thank you so much for helping us to throw the most wonderful global press launch event. All of our guests adored the venue and we’ve had fabulous feedback from everyone who attended. Your team worked so hard to ensure the event was flawless; it really was an event to remember!”

Why Thicket Priory Loves This Season:

1. We have two indoor ceremony spaces here at Thicket Priory – our Morning Room and our Chapel. Having the option of both spaces on site means that no matter what style of ceremony you are dreaming of having, guests will not have to brave the cold by travelling back and forth for your ceremony on your wedding day.

2. We have lots of cushions and cosy blankets to keep you and your guests warm so that you can still enjoy the terrace and gardens. As the night draws in, we also have a firepit where you can toast marshmallows, with hot chocolate for the children and mulled wine or a spiced apple toddy for the adults!

3. During late November and December, we decorate Thicket Priory with our own Christmas decorations. We have a beautiful tree in the entrance and garlands up the grand staircase and in the bar area. This means that some of the décor has already been done for you and so you won’t have to worry about dressing the whole venue!

4. If you are dreaming of a Christmas wedding, carol singers during the drinks reception or wedding breakfast creates a very merry atmosphere. Guests can even join in singing the carols as the night goes on!

5. With the nights being darker, Winter is the perfect season to have a sparkler sendoff on the terrace or near the bandstand which creates the most magical photographs!

“Stunning restoration both inside and out. The lake in the gardens is the perfect backdrop for photographs.”
