3 WEDDINGS TO INSPIRE THE WINTER SEASON

Winter at Thicket Priory is the perfect place to host your dream winter wedding – being in a country home with an open log fire surrounded by your family, what more could you ask for? Whether you want the added excitement of Christmas or are choosing to stick to a more neutral theme, we are more than happy to cater depending on your taste and resultingly provide a gorgeous wedding for you, with a great backdrop to those all-important photos! As always, wellies, umbrellas, and blankets are on hand at any time, allowing you and your loved ones to still enjoy the terrace and grounds – we can even set up a fire pit for you to toast marshmallows (with the added bonus of keeping you warm!).

If you are wanting to wed under the mistletoe, or just love the romance and cosiness winter brings, these three weddings held here at Thicket Priory are definitely going to help you plan your own dream winter wedding…

Steph & Matt – Mr & Mrs Minshall Est. 18th December 2021

The Minshall wedding is the perfect way to showcase how beautiful winter weddings are here at Thicket Priory; despite the typical Yorkshire countryside weather, with rain and fog, their photos turned out amazing and their photographer Dan was able to capture some very special moments. The fog even provided a great backdrop to their outdoor photos, making them seem even cosier and more romantic – they also took advantage of the wellies we have and braved the wet grass!

As it was only a week before Christmas, Steph and Matt chose to feature some festive decorations, with our Christmas tree and garlands pairing perfectly with their chosen bouquets and flowers. Having your wedding at this time of year allows you and your loved ones to not only celebrate you as a couple, but also celebrate the season!

Words from the couple themselves:
“Simply magical. No better way to describe this place. They made the entire Priory feel like it was ours for the weekend. And they were so amazing to work with. The staff are friendly and hospitable, and the management is welcoming and personable but also professional. This place will always feel like a slice of home to us now. If you want the most amazing, impressive, and unforgettable experience, stop looking anywhere else and book this place!”

Claire & Steve – Mr & Mrs Haley Est. 10th December 2022

Claire and Steve’s special day was the epitome of a Christmas wedding; from the bouquets to the favours, everything was seemingly picked with the season in mind. Claire even chose to stray from tradition and wore a beautiful grey dress that tied in perfectly with the décor. The longer sleeves were the ideal choice for the weather at this time of year, as was Steve’s choice of suit – thicker and therefore warmer materials like tweed are a great choice for a winter wedding!

The couple truly took advantage of the space offered within the ballroom and added some snow-dipped trees on and around their tables, creating the ideal wintry backdrop to their first meal together as a married couple.

Words from the couple themselves:

“We just wanted to say a huge thank you for making our wedding weekend so memorable and amazing. I can’t tell you how many of our guests thought it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Praise indeed for you and the team there at Thicket.

Thanks also for all the little touches; from helping to make the ‘post box table’ look fabulous; the extra Christmas trees and snow; looking after Steve and I throughout the weekend (even when I was being a complete control freak….sorry); the Team singing Merry Christmas in the Chapel; the framed picture of the Priory and for giving Phil a lift to the station. In fact there were too many to mention. I have serious post wedding blues and want to do it all again!”

Charlotte & Dan – Mr & Mrs Gee-Summons Est. 17th December 2022
Another wonderful winter wedding was the Gee-Summons wedding, where their photographer Carla captured so many special moments and details of their day.
Charlotte and Dan chose black and white as their signature colours, which was extremely effective as it made everything tie in so well together – from Dan’s suit to the bridesmaid’s dresses and table napkins, everything was cohesive – even their pyjamas matched!

To celebrate the festive season, they chose for us to serve mulled wine on arrival (major crowd pleaser during any winter occasion), and they hung mistletoe in the bar (also a crowd pleaser!). To combat the colder weather, we had the fireplace lit inside the bar, and as always, the firepit is available for use along with many blankets for all your guests to take advantage of!

Words from the couple themselves:
“I know we will send more formal thank yous but we just wanted to say the BIGGEST thank you for the best weekend of our lives! I know other people say it ( but we never really believed them!!)! But now we do!

Thicket felt even more magical than when we looked round, there is something really special about it at Christmas and I honestly couldn’t imagine not having our wedding at Thicket in winter now!

Jess and the team were incredible, Maggie and Becca kept that bar alive and it literally felt like we were in a romantic country pub on Friday night! thank you for accommodating all of our requests, all of our guests had the best weekend and that is why we chose Thicket! Thank you again and we hope you all have the BEST ( and most well deserved!) Christmas!

Love Mr and Mrs Gee-Summons ( aka the McDonald’s bride and groom!)”
