The Gardens & Nature at Thicket Priory

It is an understatement to say that the grounds at Thicket Priory are a haven of tranquillity and peace, because unless you have experienced them in person it is impossible to explain just how magical they are. There is an air of calmness as you walk around the grounds, crossing our three bridges to capture the amazing views of the house beautifully reflected in the lake.
As someone who was lucky enough to have lived in the grounds during the time of lockdown, it’s safe to say that the gardens provided many moments of reflection. Our guests and couples have the pleasure of enjoying Thicket Priory exclusively, so when taking advantage of exploring means they will only risking bumping into a familiar face.

The seasonal changing here at Thicket Priory bring a brand new look to enjoy, all with their own beauty. From the blooms of the wisteria in the spring to the frosty grasses in the winter, each bring their own moments of magic.

We would like to invite you to slow things down…
Why not take the chance to engage a lower gear, reading a book by the lake could not be in a better setting. With a number of seats dotted around the gardens you can find your quiet corner and be transported into your author’s world.

Being surrounded by a world renowned nature reserve this means that wildlife is not in short supply. From the daily deer sightings to the less frequent visits from our nesting kingfishers, you need to have a keen eye to spot our feathered or furry friends. Spring and Summer brings the ‘cuteness’ factor to the grounds, with many duck & moor hen families swimming lengths of the lake; often mistaken for balls of fluff!
It is a twitchers paradise, from the smallest to the tallest you’ll spot a huge array of British birdlife in the grounds. Being surrounded by a nature reserve, the wildlife spills into our gardens and we welcome it with open arms. It has also been rumoured that there are fairies living at Thicket Priory…you can go fairy hunting as part of our Thicket Priory quest!

“Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower”. I feel this quote can be translated to the happiness of our beautiful couples, and the happiness shared with their friends and family. The abundance of floral activity as you walk around changes throughout the year, with each flower having it’s own ‘solo’.

To take on the writing of a blog about nature and not include some words from the honourable Sir David Attenborough would be wrong.
“Ancient trees are precious. There is little else on Earth that plays host to such a rich community of life within a single living organism.”
There are many trees that call Thicket Priory their home, from ancient trees to newly planted trees, all laying roots to live their lives as family members. The opportunity for photographs in amongst the woodland and orchard of Thicket Priory means any nature loving couples will be in their element.

Thicket Priory from above is just as spectacular, so with a little help from the power of a drone is all we need to showcase the Victoria red brick building amongst the stunning English country gardens. Here’s a few drone shots from a gorgeous June wedding in the bandstand, showing how beautiful it is to host your nuptials surrounded by nature.
