The power of black & white photography

This blog is all about just how stunning the black and white photographs from your wedding or event can be just as stunning as the colourful ones! I may have dropped in the odd ‘punch’ of colour just to keep you on your toes…but when I was searching through the images it just felt like the right thing to do!

As a venue filled with so many amazing colours there is just something special about the emotions, feelings, facial expressions and details which can be captured with a black and white photo which may have been overlooked slightly if it were in colour.

Real Weddings
Getting ready is such an important part of the wedding day for so many couples, spending time with their best friends preparing for one of the most important days of their lives. Thicket Priory has the perfect opportunity to wake up with your nearest and dearest when staying on our exclusive use two day and night stay. Everyone is settled in relaxed and ready to celebrate, without the stresses of running around, packing and setting off in cars to get to your venue!

Here’s a wonderful mixture images dating back to the summer of 2019 right up to our latest wedding in October of 2020. Each couple had unique and special touches to there getting ready plans, from matching dressing gowns to a cheeky tipple of sherry with their parents before leaving the bridal suite!

One of my favourite parts of the getting ready is attached the button holes, not only because if finishes off any suit ensemble, but because as a perfectionist I have to make sure they are straight and secure! Even in black and white there is something special about the finishes touches of the button hole!

Emotions, Love and Laughter Captured…

Is it just me or do you see so much more in a black and white photograph when it comes to emotions and feelings! It almost stripes the image back to just the emotions, from laughter to tears…we’ve seen it all!

Pre-Wedding Shoots

The pre-wedding shoot is something we have only experienced twice to date…one during the summer, warmer months and the second during the Autumn, so we have two completely different sets of images!

Ed & Alison were lucky enough to enjoy the British weather at it’s best, strolling the grounds romantically, enjoying the tranquility of the winding paths, the fun of the swing and the beauty of the garden features scattered in the grounds!

In contrast, Emily and Josh, who has definitely become rather famous in our social media and industry articles world with their fabulous Autumnal shoot, capturing the most wonderful vibrant colours of my personal favourite month!

Styled Photoshoots

If there has been a silver lining to the latest ‘world circumstances’ it must be that we have had the opportunity to host many more styled shoots, working with some of the finest suppliers in our industry!  They all have an eye for detail and have really enjoyed falling in love with Thicket Priory as much as we do!

I don’t think there is one area of the building or grounds which hasn’t been explored and framed by beautiful design and hard work!  Here’s a huge shout out to all you wonderful industry friends…we’ve totally got this and we’ll all be bouncing back to full speed as soon as we all can!

In-House Events

And last but not least, only a teeny tiny section of images, but the in-house events we have hosted have mainly been captured in colour, with the exception of the few lovely faces below!

Carla Whittingham Photography

All images included in this blog have been sent to us in black and white rather than me filtering them to the needs of the blog, which tells me the photographers out there are definitely fans of stripping out the colour from time to time in order to capture what is in front of their camera in a slightly different light!  I for one love it!

Lots of love
