Spring Weddings at Thicket Priory

North Yorkshire Countryside, Exclusive Hire Wedding Venue

There is something so romantic about Spring weddings, full of greenery, blooming flowers, and sunshine. With our vast and beautiful gardens, Thicket Priory embraces all that is Spring making us the perfect setting for a Spring wedding.

“Thicket Priory became “home” to our two families and their guests. From the informal meal in the Old Kitchen on Friday lunchtime through to breakfast on Sunday morning, nothing was too much trouble for Anna and her Team. We were able to chill outside in the sun on Friday afternoon, wander round the grounds and lake, and simply absorb the wonderful ambience of this lovely old building.

Saturday morning was equally relaxed despite the comings and goings of hairdressers, florists, caterers, photographers, and registrars alongside more guests. Even with so much activity, there remained an air of tranquility befitting our special occasion. The wedding itself was delightful. Little touches such as Anna letting our Grandson strike the gong to commence proceedings made it extra special.

We thoroughly enjoyed the entire time that we spent in this stunning and lovingly restored old house. It’s a shame it all went so quickly.”

5 Tips for a Spring Wedding:

1. Although we like to stay optimistic about the sunshine, we all know the British weather is very unpredictable and so if you are opting for an outdoor ceremony, we recommend having a backup plan inside encase of any April showers!

2. Embrace the seasons florals! There’s really no limit when it comes to spring flowers, from vibrant jewel tones for a pop of colour or pastel blush shades for a softer aesthetic.

3. Our Ballroom with its neutral setting allows for you to choose any colour, theme and style for your decor so no matter what your preference is, our beautiful Ballroom will be complimentary.

4. In keeping with the season, an alternative for traditional confetti would be to have dried flower petals – which is also a great environmentally friendly option too.

5. Opt for lighter flavours such as lemon, vanilla or white chocolate and raspberry for your wedding cake. ‘Naked’ style cakes are very popular particularly during Spring; decorated with flowers and fresh fruit.

“My gosh, we cannot thank Anna and the team enough for all they did in making our Wedding weekend run so smoothly. Really, nothing was too much trouble, and it made our wedding all we had hoped it would be and more.”

5 Reasons Thicket Priory Loves This Season:

1. Our luscious gardens are in full bloom with lots of whimsical places for photos; from our bandstand to our wooden swing to our three bridges over the lake.

2. The terrace is the perfect place to hold your reception drinks, nothing beats a glass of prosecco or Pimms in the sunshine.

3. You can be adventurous with your evening food choices, perhaps a BBQ or even a hog roast that guests can enjoy out on the terrace. Guests can make the most of the long evenings and enjoy the outside space until late.

4. Our Buckingham Suite and Vavasour Suite both have huge open windows which allow the light to cascade around creating the perfect bright and airy setting to get ready the morning of the wedding. The views overlook our orchard and lake offering a feeling of tranquility to ease any pre-ceremony nerves!

5. Having lawn games are a fun option for afternoon entertainment, we have our own croquet set that you may use but you could also bring other traditional games such as boules or even crazy golf!

“The things we appreciated the most were having our wedding over a weekend, as it gave us an extra night to see our guests and spend time with everyone and secondly, choosing a venue like Thicket Priory where we could all stay together with accommodation on site.”
