Real Wedding Blog – Jeff & Helen, 3rd February, 2024

“Time is the currency of relationships; there is no way to invest into a relationship without investing your time”…and I think the investment of being together 40 years before you say ‘I Do!’ is the ultimate investment! This is exactly what our gorgeous couple Jeff and Helen did!

Unbeknown to their children Mr & Mrs Kidd to be were to invite them round for a Halloween meal to remember. In the midst of planning a 60th birthday celebration for Jeff, they decide to, ever so casually, drop in that they would celebrate by getting married!! It’s safe to say there were happy tears all around!
I’d like you to read all about their wedding directly from them, so here are some words from the Bride & Groom…

~

How did you meet?
“We met as teenagers whilst at school!”

When did you know you they were ‘the one’, and how did they pop the question?
“Aged 20 we re-established out friend and this grew into a fabulous relationship, we enjoyed each others company and had fun…we always knew we would be together and discussed marriage on numerous occasions over the 39 years!”
“The definitive question was…what would you like to do for my 60th Birthday (Jeff)? The answer was…Let’s get MARRIED!! The question was asked early November 2023 and we tied the knot less than 90 days later!!! 3rd February 2024”

~

What was the biggest must have for your celebrations?
“All our family and friends together to celebrate both events.”

One of the standout features of Jeff & Helen’s wedding celebrations was the way in which Helen brought her vision of the wedding day to life, decorating the Chapel, the tables and various corners of the building herself. Using greenery, twigs and teazel from their own garden, Helen created a natural, handmade and seasonal look for the theme of the wedding. As someone who loves a dried flower, I was in awe of how she clearly had lots of fun and enjoyed being the creator of her own vision. Helen said “The beautiful venue speaks for itself, we didn’t want to distract from that.”

How did you pick the perfect photographer/videographer to capture your day?
“A family friend and a leap of faith was required. Weddings were not her usual area, but we wanted to support local and we are delighted with the outcome of our photos.”

~

Other than saying ‘I Do’ what is the most unforgettable moment from the day?
Helen: “Entering the Chapel from above and seeing everyone’s reaction.”
Jeff: “Watching Helen and her father walking down the aisle.”

~

Who gets the gold medal in the wedding Olympics for helping make your day amazing?
“The whole team was fantastic throughout the weekend. Anna & Lil are shining stars! Helen lost her watch and a guest lost an irreplaceable item but both were found by Lil!!”

Which supplier was a real stand out for you? The unsung star who deserves a special mention?
“Hog & Apple Food Co., our chosen caterers delivered superb service but the standout person was Mica, for going above and beyond for the whole 3 day duration.”

What was it about Thicket Priory that give it the WOW factor?
“It wasn’t a hotel! It could accommodate all our friends and family as a ‘hotel’ can, but in a stunning environment.
We had an amazing 60th birthday celebration on the Friday evening for Jeff, followed by a stunning wedding on the Saturday, and the planning went perfect due to the great staff! We loved the relaxed, informal and natural charm of the building; the Chapel was so intimate and helped sway the final decision.”

~

What’s your funniest memory from the day?
“The men went Axe throwing in the morning to keep them out of the way*, leaving the ladies to have a relaxed morning in the bridal suite in their PJ’s with prosecco. The Buckingham suite was like piccadilly station but with loads of fun and laughter. One of the gents was so bad at throwing an axe that 25 men all laughing and poking fun was a memorable moment, and we still laugh about it 2 months later…it’s cruel but funny!”

Finally, what’s your best advice to give couple who are about to tie the knot?
“Don’t overthink it! Sometime you really don’t need all the regalia that comes with weddings. Keeping it simple in such a stunning venue with the staff taking care of every single aspect was absolutely perfect.”

We loved seeing Jeff & Helen celebrate their marriage together, watching two best friends commit to vows after already have 4 decades to their love story, that was so special. Topped off by speeches that had us all in tears! As far as family celebrations go, Mr & Mrs Kidd created memories for life!
