“From the moment we drove down the driveway to Thicket Priory for our first look, to the time we looked in the rearview mirror as Mr and Mrs Freeman on our way to our honeymoon, the whole of Thicket and the people who make it what it is, were absolutely perfect and I cannot think of a single thing we would have changed about the venue…”
After having to postpone, Lucy and David finally got to have their dream wedding at Thicket Priory in August last year, filled with gorgeous florals and some perfect golden hour shots.
They had a two-day midweek wedding, with their guests checking in on the Tuesday and staying through until the Thursday. Having their closest friends and family all under one roof for two nights meant they got to extend the celebrations and spend some quality time with everyone – your wedding day will feel as though it goes incredibly fast, so it just means you have chance to chat to all your guests and make the most out of your home away from home!
Why did you choose Thicket Priory for your wedding venue?
“We chose Thicket because it offered us everything, we wanted from a wedding venue. We loved the amazing balance of tranquil outside space and stunning interior of the Priory. We loved how unique it felt and the staff made us feel so welcome throughout the process – we knew we had made the right choice from day one.”
Lucy and David had a chapel ceremony, which is the perfect space for if you are wanting a church style wedding, with or without the religious aspect. Our chapel ceremonies are celebrant-led, which means you get to have a ceremony that is completely unique and personal to you – for more information on celebrants, read our blog HERE.
Where did your styling inspiration come from?
We just wanted to keep it simple, the venue was so beautiful we didn’t feel the need to add lots of extra decoration to it – its style speaks for itself. We both wanted quite a classic style of wedding so chose navy blue and copper as an overall colour scheme, Dave had a made to measure suit which was an amazing experience to see the outfit come together at various stages.
For me as the bride, I wanted to stick with the classic and simple theme so chose a dress which focused on a clean fit, nothing too ‘fussy’, but treated myself to the longest veil I could get my hands on!
We had help from friends and family, making centre pieces, pew ends, the cake etc. And for us, having family involved bringing our day together made it very special.”
What was your favourite memory/memories – together or separately – from your wedding day?
“Just getting to spend two days with our family and friends celebrating exactly as we had planned, relaxed, and settled for the whole time. I think or us both, getting to take time away from our guests just the two of us and walk around the lake is such a core memory for us, just soaking in the day and the happiness.”
What was your favourite detail about our building/grounds?
“I’m not sure there was just one! The history behind the bedrooms, the view from the lake looking at the house, the secret staircase, the stairs in the chapel – honestly there are so many!”
What would you say to someone who is thinking of booking Thicket Priory for their wedding venue (to hopefully convince them to!)?
Your wedding day is something which you think about so often once it’s over and every time I think back to our day, the memories of Thicket Priory as a venue and the whole team are so vivid and I smile at the tiny details they got right at every minute of our journey to the altar (and the dancefloor!). You aren’t just getting a factory standard place; you are treated as the most important people and the team are genuinely invested in your happiness. I guarantee that if you book Thicket Priory you won’t regret it, and you will spend every day of your married life in awe of your special day.”
