This was the bedroom of Hilda Dunnington Jefferson (1887-1988), the sister of Sir John Dunnington Jefferson. Hilda never married and during the First World War she and her sister, Dorothy, worked as nurses for Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Nursing Service. After the war Hilda led an adventurous life, climbing the Matterhorn and sailing to Japan on a cargo ship. She worked for many years as a volunteer for the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Victoria League in London and was awarded an MBE. She stayed at Thicket Priory on many occasions and loved her visits to Yorkshire. She died in London in aged 101.
