Real Wedding: Austin & Sarah, 6th September 2025

“From our first visit to checkout on Sunday, Lily and the team were incredible. The bar staff were welcoming and efficient, the weekend atmosphere was calm and fun, and so many guests commented on how well looked after they felt. We are so grateful to everyone at Thicket Priory for making our wedding such a memorable weekend.” …

Austin and Sarah’s late summer wedding at Thicket Priory was nothing short of magical. From the timeless, elegant colour palette to the beautifully curated cherub-inspired stationery, every detail reflected the couple’s impeccable taste and thoughtful vision.
Set against the grandeur of Thicket Priory’s historic interiors and picturesque grounds, the day unfolded with effortless beauty. Soft, romantic styling complemented the venue perfectly, creating an atmosphere that felt both sophisticated and deeply personal. Every element had been carefully considered, resulting in a celebration that was as meaningful as it was visually stunning.

What made them choose Thicket Priory…

“From the moment we drove down the driveway we fell in love with the grounds and the unique, thoughtfully designed rooms.

What really sold it was the team, especially Lily, whose calm, organised and kind approach made planning effortless and gave us confidence from our very first meeting. The venue’s closeness to York made it easy for guests to travel, and being able to have over 70 guests stay all weekend turned the wedding into a relaxed, memorable weekend away for our closest family and friends.”

What they chose to wear for their wedding day …

“We chose a traditional, timeless look to suit the venue. Austin, the groomsmen and our dads wore morning suits, with Austin’s outfit and accessories from Ede & Ravenscroft in London. The dads having matching ties was a lovely keepsake.

Sarah’s dress was made to measure by Divine Atelier via Miss Bush Bridal, in natural silk, and she wore her mum’s 1993 veil with delicate pearls. The bridesmaids wore lilac one‑shoulder dresses from Whistles, which complemented the floral palette.”

Their decor, styling and theme…

“We aimed for classic elegance with bold, autumnal accents. Rich floral statements and large urns anchored the styling and worked beautifully against Thicket Priory’s historic interiors. The overall feel was warm, intimate and slightly theatrical, which suited the weekend‑long celebration.

We chose Emma Cox Floristry after seeing her work at Thicket Priory. We wanted bold colours and a dark plum accent, and Emma understood our vision perfectly. The large urns were a standout feature and we’ve dried many of the plum hydrangeas as keepsakes that still sit in ours and our families homes.”

The cake and catering…

“Our cake from Slattery’s Bakery featured handmade sugar flowers that matched the floral theme and there was enough that we were still enjoying it at Christmas.

Hog & Apple catered the weekend and were outstanding from the casual Friday lasagnes to the canapés and the wedding breakfast. The team accommodated dietary requirements without fuss and served perfectly pink lamb for over 100 guests. The evening hog roast added theatre and was a huge hit after a long afternoon of celebrations.”

Standout suppliers…

“All our suppliers were wonderful, but a few that we haven’t already mentioned deserve special mention. Anna Dobviy illustrated our guests, creating lovely mementos people could take away. The surprising unsung star was Bob Pound the magician, whose close‑up magic and filmed interactions had everyone talking and surprised even the biggest sceptics on the guest list.”

Their favourite part of the day…

“It’s impossible to pick one moment. Getting ready with family and friends, the groom’s relaxed morning with his groomsmen, and the unexpectedly emotional ceremony all stand out. Above all, having grandparents and everyone stay for the full weekend created core memories and made the whole celebration feel intimate and joyful.”

Words of wisdom…

“Try to soak it in. Trust Lily and the team to handle the details so you can enjoy the day. Stay close to your partner when you can and don’t sweat the small stuff. Things will happen, but the weekend will still be incredibly special if you focus on the bigger picture.”
