When Should I Get Married?

One of the biggest questions after getting engaged is ‘when should we get married?’ – the date and time of year affects everything – from the venue to the styling to the dress, even to when most of your guests are available.

You need to consider what your favourite time of year is, if the colour scheme you’re wanting matches the season – do you want a Bridgerton-esque wedding where guests can enjoy lawn games and drinks on the terrace? Or do you want a cosy home away from home wedding, toasting marshmallows over the fire pit and meeting under the mistletoe?

If you’re struggling to settle on a date or time of year, I’ve put together some seasonal inspiration that will hopefully help you decide…

FAQ’s

1. Are there any restrictions of the use of confetti, rice or flower petals?

We actively encourage confetti, it makes for beautiful photographs.  We ask that all confetti is biodegradable, so the biodegradable paper or flower petals.  Rice isn’t something we along due to the local wildlife.

Confetti is generally planned for outdoor after your ceremony, however in wet weather we allow confetti in your ceremony spaces, and we also allow confetti for the first dance.  Your coordinator here at Thicket Priory will guide you through the best options, even sharing a discount code with you!

2. What is the venues policy on candles and open flames?

As we are a very old building, and have lots of lovely wooden features, naturally we do need to be very careful with fire.  We allow real candles in our ballroom for your wedding breakfast, however they must be contained, so no naked flames.  We also use tealight candles to add cosiness to our bar area.  Throughout the rest of the venue, we allow battery powered LED candles, of which we have a large supply, asking that you simply provide the batteries to use them.

3. Can we bring our own alcohol and what are the licensing requirements?

We have a beautiful, stocked and staff bar at Thicket Priory, so as far as a bar is concerned, we’ve got you covered.

For your wedding day drink, consisting of a reception drink, wine during the wedding breakfast and a toast drink, we provide ‘collections’ for you to choose from, however you can also explore the option of paying corkage for the equivalent amounts to provide it yourselves.  The team can talk you through the options and costs available to you for this.
