Shrouded in privacy for decades, Grade II-listed Victorian masterpiece Thicket Priory has been lovingly restored to create one of North Yorkshire’s finest private houses for exclusive hire only.
Dating back to the 1840’s and built by Edward Blore, most notable for his work on Buckingham Palace; between 1955 and 2009 Thicket Priory was home to an order of nuns and sealed off from the outside world.
Today our sanctuary of tranquillity boasts 35 en-suite bedrooms, a magnificent Ballroom that can seat up to 160, a private chapel, 18 acres of grounds, a private lake and a boathouse. Meanwhile a myriad of mysterious stairs and doors will make it feel even more like a magical secret just waiting to be discovered. And yet we are only 20 minutes from historic city of York and just two hours by train from central London.
Extend the celebrations and hire the venue for two nights – enjoy a BBQ on the terrace in Summer or sit by the fire in Winter with your nearest and dearest.
With two master suites, you’re able to get ready in style for your big day.
We have two indoor and two outdoor ceremony spaces for you to choose from, including an on-site chapel.
You’re married! Enjoy a glass of fizz with your guests to celebrate!
Toast to the newlyweds during the speeches and enjoy some gorgeous food from one of our caterers.
Start your evening reception off right with a cocktail hour before the first dance, and then its time to party!
Anna, Lil, Becca, and Maggie are an all-star wedding coordination team that were helpful, kind, and attentive to detail--all the qualities you need, especially when planning the wedding from the States.
From the moment we drove up the driveway to Thicket Priory on our first visit, we knew we had found something truly special. Thicket is a wedding venue like no other – a stunningly beautiful location that also feels like home. It provided the most magical backdrop for our weekend celebration, having exclusive use of the venue for the entire weekend allowed us the time to create memories with our loved ones that we will cherish forever.
Every visit felt like visiting friends- chatting with a cup of tea! They answered all our silly questions and help plan every detail. They were very organised and were in constant communication with us leading up to the wedding.
We were complimenting them, our guests were complimenting them and even our suppliers were complimenting the amazing hospitality that they had received, way beyond what they were used to.
