Come find your fairytale …

Shrouded in privacy for decades, Grade II-listed Victorian masterpiece Thicket Priory has been lovingly restored to create one of North Yorkshire’s finest private houses for exclusive hire only. Perfect for weddings from 70 to 160 guests.

Today our sanctuary of tranquility boasts 35 en-suite bedrooms, a ballroom seating up to 160, a private chapel, and 18 acres of grounds, with a myriad of mysterious stairs and doors making it feel even more like a magical secret waiting to be discovered – yet we are only 20 minutes from historic York.

“Thicket Priory is the wedding venue you never knew you were looking for all along … it is the real deal, not only is it stunningly beautiful, you also immediately feel like you’re home. But it’s the people that make it truly magical.”

NIGHT PRIOR

Extend the celebrations and hire the venue for two nights … one of the biggest pressures on your wedding day is feeling like you need to be the ‘host’ – with a two-day wedding, you can get all of your closest friends and family together the night before, and get all of the introductions out of the way, so you can just relax and enjoy your wedding surrounded by all of your loved ones.

MORNING PREPARATIONS

We have two master suites as part of our 35 bedrooms, elegantly decorated and filled with tons of natural light, making them the perfect spaces to get ready for the big day. Gather your bridesmaids and groomsmen for celebratory (or nerve-calming!) drinks, have your first looks, and grab your something blue before heading down to your ceremony.

Ceremonies

Enjoy a glass of fizz, chat with your friends and family, have some canapes, and soak in the fact that you’re now married! In the warmer months, you can head out onto the terrace and explore the gardens, and in the winter you can keep warm in front of the fire – we have spaces perfect for every season.

WEDDING BREAKFAST

Toast to the newlyweds during the speeches and enjoy some gorgeous food from one of our selected caterers – we work with only a few handpicked companies to ensure the quality and service you receive is the same as what we offer at Thicket Priory.

Cocktail Hour & Dancing

Start your Evening Reception off with a cocktail hour before your first dance, and then it’s time for the party! Choose a band or DJ that matches your vibe,  you could even add a photo booth, beer pong or other games for even more entertainment for your guests.

“Thicket is a wedding venue like no other – a stunningly beautiful location that also feels like home. It provided the most magical backdrop for our weekend celebration, having exclusive use of the venue for the entire weekend allowed us the time to create memories with our loved ones that we will cherish forever.”

When Should I Get Married?

One of the biggest questions after getting engaged is ‘when should we get married?’ – the date and time of year affects everything – from the venue to the styling to the dress, even to when most of your guests are available.

You need to consider what your favourite time of year is, if the colour scheme you’re wanting matches the season – do you want a Bridgerton-esque wedding where guests can enjoy lawn games and drinks on the terrace? Or do you want a cosy home away from home wedding, toasting marshmallows over the fire pit and meeting under the mistletoe?
